magnum morgon côte du py foillard
During the harvest, Jean Foillard, a perfectionist winemaker from Villié-Morgon, continually refines his expertise by relentlessly experimenting to discover what will bring a unique touch to his wines. He also achieved this distinctiveness thanks to a schist plot from the famous Côte du Py climate.
The estate produces remarkable cuvées, marked by finesse, lightness, and balance, with great energy: essential wines. Coming from a lineage of winemakers and coopers, Jean joined his father in the early 1980s, quickly taking the reins of the family estate. In 1985, he got closer to Marcel Lapierre to follow the philosophy of Jules Chauvet, and craft authentic wines in harmony with their terroirs. He also collaborated with other visionary winemakers like Guy Breton, Yvon Métras, and Jean-Paul Thévenet, sharing with them a free and independent vision.
The Côte du Py climate is regarded as the great terroir of Morgon. Its soils, mainly composed of decomposing volcanic schists, give the wine a beautiful minerality.
The wine is traditionally vinified with whole clusters, followed by 8 to 9 months of aging in oak barrels, without new wood.
In tasting, this wine presents a translucent garnet robe. The nose, initially reserved, reveals aromas of cherry pit and notes of ripe stem. On the palate, the wine is full and concentrated, with a fleshy texture while remaining elegant and airy. The flavors of cherry, cocoa, spices, and wilted flowers extend into a juicy and lively finish. A wine of great class.
